GLIDING DOWN THE CANALS
The unique setting of the Grand Canal, Venice’s main waterway, inspired famous painters like Canaletto, Turner, and Monet, and the great writers Théophile Gautier, Henry James, and Ernst Hemingway to name a few.
You can experience the same feelings and enthusiasm by taking a private boat ride at sunset. Here you may enjoy the numerous architectural styles, motifs, colors, and the vibrating reflections on the water.
Navigation along the Venetian canals is by nature slow-paced, allowing your guide the opportunity to show the most attractive buildings and sanctuaries, like the Salute Church, Ca’ Dario, Ca’ Rezzonico, Ca’ Foscari, Rialto Bridge, Ca’ d’ Oro, Ca’ Pesaro, and the modern Calatrava Bridge.
You will enjoy the comforts of a private water-taxi while learning more about the development of Venetian architecture in private homes through the centuries.
You’ll also identify the many celebrities, both local and foreign, that lived in these fancy houses (house = ca’ in local dialect), and the way people continue to live in these unique landmarks. Exploring the waterways of Venice is undoubtedly a must for any traveler.
Yet another treat is sharing the relaxed atmosphere and slow pace of Venice with its locals.
After your one-hour water tour GLIDING DOWN THE CANALS, avoiding the most touristy areas, we’ll take a stroll which typically includes a break in a wine bar, where we will join the natives in sipping a glass of good wine, savoring delightful tiny appetizers and reveling in the sweet sound of Venetian gossip.

MORE ABOUT
THIS TOUR
GLIDING DOWN THE CANALS
The Grand Canal is the most beautiful waterway in Venice. About two and a half miles long, with an average depth of 18 feet, it meanders through the city starting from St Mark’s Square and ending in Piazzale Roma.
It is lined on both sides mainly by private palaces, ranging from the 13th through the 19th century.
Throughout history, residence on the Grand Canal was essential for any powerful Venetian family, whether for practical reasons (direct access to the main waterway for seafaring purposes) or simply as a status symbol.
Today the seawater canal is crossed by four bridges, but until the mid-19th century there had only been the Rialto bridge, where much of the city’s commercial life took place.
The wealthy élite living on the Grand Canal had their own gondolas and gondoliers.
Of course, gondolas are still present, but mainly for tourists’ enjoyment. Additionally, an increasing number of palaces are now serving as hotels, museums, and embassies.
