IN THE TRACKS OF POETRY
A walk through the city with the reading of passages from the works of writers who created the poetical myth of the city: Lord Byron, Marcel Proust, Henry James, Richard Wagner, Thomas Mann, Ernest Hemingway, and others.
First steps, then words themselves come to life in front of the very building. The itinerary ideally starts with Lord Byron by the Bridge of Sighs, proceeds with Shakespeare and Thomas Mann in St Mark’s Square, continuing, on the steps Ernst Hemingway, Marcel Proust and Henry James towards the Grand Canal and the Salute Church, proceeds into Dorsoduro with Baron Corvo, Robert Browning and Ezra Pound …and finally goes back passing by Gran Teatro la Fenice with Nietzsche and Italo Calvino.
HIGHLIGHTS

MORE ABOUT
THIS TOUR
IN THE TRACKS OF POETRY
Venice was already a fabled city more than 500 years ago. Since then, it has attracted and seduced an extraordinary number of poets and writers, and the magic spell seems to be never ending.
The most recurrent motifs are those related with dream and unreality, love, intrigue, murder and death, voyeurism, melancholia, and decadence.
Silent gondolas, sumptuous and yet decaying palaces, labyrinthine and somber alleyways, and canals are a sort of obsessive, collective imagery.
Writers came on the steps of other writers, giving life to a ‘literary’ Venice which is almost as well known as the real Venice … it is impossible to see Venice without thinking about the words of Shakespeare, or Byron or Henry James.
As the city remains relatively the same, their words still have a haunting hold over our imaginations today.
